One version of the truth ensures that everyone is on the same page, helping to eliminate error, as everyone using the system utilizes and draws upon the same data source.
An example of a technology that employs this concept is Gemcom GEMS, a collaborative geology and mine planning system. Geologist, engineer, planner and surveyor data, for example, is all stored in a shared database. When users update the system, data is automatically made available to all the other users who have been given permission to view and or edit it.
GEMS is a crossfunctional platform that supports a wide-range of
mining activities including mine production scheduling, planning,
design, resource modelling and exploration. With its ability to
provide users with timely access to accurate information, it has
been adopted by mine sites across the world that seek to improve
mining efficiencies.
