Gemcom InSite FAQ

How expensive and long does it take to implement InSite?

InSite provides a simple and rapid implementation offering. Operations can be up and running from as little as two months and at a cost under a CAPEX.

Can InSite grow with our operation as we look to increase production?

InSite is a scalable solution and offers flexible mining, plant, and premium editions to best fit an operation’s needs. Additional modules can be purchased as operations increase production and require more functionality.

How easy is it to enter data into InSite?

InSite replaces the need for Excel spreadsheets and removes silos of information. The Data Entry Capture module enables fast data entry with the ability to capture data offline and full keyboard functions ensures high efficiency, data integrity, and reduced errors.

How does InSite help reduce our production issues?

The InSite stockpile calculation engine is a core component of the system. It has the ability to manage mass and grade throughout the mining value chain. It provides traceable and auditable production data to ensure confidence in production numbers. Production issues can be identified and reduced from days and hours to minutes.

Can InSite integrate with our operational systems and how?

InSite has the ability to integrate with operational systems from FMS and data historians to LIMS and ERP systems. The integration framework is a sophisticated services architecture allowing a flexible set of integration adaptors to enable real time data collection.

Can InSite handle multiple material balance scenarios?

InSite not only balances and enables “what if” scenario analysis for mass and grade, but balances can be configured for contained material, volume or even meters advanced. It provides full end-to-end functionality to handle all production balancing requirements.

Does InSite enable contract demand and specification alignment?

One thing is to align planned verses versus actual production, the other is to ensure that it also meets your contract demand and specifications. InSite manages full mass and grade tracking all the way through to finished product to ensure contract alignment. With the ability to record and compare final customer assays with mine and lab assays ensures data integrity and traceability.

Can InSite handle all types of finished product tracking?

From bags and bricks through to containers and doré bars, InSite provides a solution for all commodity types. The ability to deplete bulk stockpiles and convert the material into finished product is a powerful feature and ensures mass and grade control.

Does InSite provide consumables tracking?

InSite is a complete mine and plant production management solution and therefore associated mining activities are tracked. From blasting and drilling consumables such as explosives and drills, through to plant water usage and reagents, InSite handles all your consumables needs.

Does InSite provides a rates management capability to track costs against production?

InSite has to the ability to record and compare costs to production data. From fuel and tire costs against production trucking data, to specific mining costs associated with locations.

How much time is needed from my personnel onsite to implement the software?

A minimal amount of time is required. The majority of business analysis and preparation can be done off site with contact through a key user. Gemcom’s Business Analysts are usually onsite for a two week period at a time, requiring 25% onsite personnel time. A key user can be identified who can then train other users when required also.

How many standard reports do I get with an out of the box solution?

The InSite standard reporting solution provides both mining and plant reporting packages. They cover the entire mining value chain and include critical reports such as daily and monthly production, stockpile summaries, drill and blast, load and haul, equipment performance and operator efficiency.

What if I want custom reports?

While InSite aims to cover the operation’s reporting needs through the use of standard reports, it also incorporates easy to use drag-and-drop reporting using the latest, standard Microsoft technology.

What benefits can I get from data integration?

Integration can improve inefficient use of time at an operation and free up personnel for other value adding activities. The system validates, notifies and processes integrated systems data, ensuring data integrity and auditability.

Does InSite provide activity-based costing?

InSite can integrate with costing, ERP and EAM systems and then track costs against all production, service and support activities. InSite also has to the ability to record and compare costs to production data. As an example, it can compare fuel and tire costs against production trucking data and specific mining costs associated with locations.

Can InSite handle production, service and support activity recording?

Yes. Examples include drill and blast, load and haul production, mucking, meshing, pumping, backfill and development work, service and support.

Does InSite align mine and plant production?

Since InSite is a single system for both mine and plant production, alignment is seamless. With all data stored and reported on from within one system, critical issues such as bottlenecks can be readily identified and dealt with.

Does InSite 4.0 have Shift Management Capabilities?

Yes, it has. The Shift Management module provides the ability to execute and manage tasks against a plan, within a shift. By providing transparency into shift planning and operations, this module solves problems relating to inefficient use of shift time, poor planning, and conflicting activities or bottlenecks.

Does InSite 4.0 have Central Monitoring Capabilities?

Yes, it has . The Central Monitoring module provides a highly graphical real time display of the entire mining operation with visual representations of all active tasks. The ability to link information from shift management with other operational data allows you to react quickly to changing conditions.
