What’s the difference between GEMS and Surpac?

GEMS and Surpac are both geology and mine planning systems. You will find the same broad functionality exists in both products, but with some differences in the modules and feature sets available in each. What distinguishes the two systems is that GEMS is built upon a Microsoft relational database backend which organises and stores all GEMS mining data.

What stages of exploration and mining does Surpac support?

Surpac is used all the way from field exploration through production. The software is used by geologists, engineers, surveyors, and technicians. Resource estimation, plotting, block modelling, mine design, short-term and long-term planning, and grade control are just a few of the areas in which the software is employed. As an integrated system, data flows freely between all of these domains.

What areas of exploration does Surpac support?

Surpac is used in field and office environments. It is used from everything from drillhole management, to geological modelling, and geostatistical analysis. It is common to find Surpac used in scoping and feasibility studies.

Does Surpac have an exploration version?

Yes. Surpac Xplorpac edition is a collection of common exploration tools.

Does Surpac have a quarry version?

Yes. Surpac Quarry edition is a collection of common tools for quarry operations.

Is it possible to automate workflows and tasks in Surpac?

Yes. Surpac contains a rich scripting engine which users can leverage to automate workflows and tasks. Many of our customers have used Surpac’s scripting capabilities to save significant time and bring consistency to their processes. Can Surpac read data from other applications?

Yes. Surpac has been built to easily exchange data with other geology and mine planning systems, popular database formats, and many other types of mining applications.

How can I add to and upgrade my Surpac system?

Surpac has been designed as a modular system. You choose the modules that suit your needs today and add to them over time.

What presentation capabilities does Surpac offer?

Surpac incorporates a 3D working environment. Images and movies can be captured and exported for use in presentation software and on the Web.

Does Surpac have a scheduling module?

Surpac is tightly integrated with Gemcom MineSched, our surface and underground scheduling software system. In fact, MineSched launches from the Surpac user interface and data is seamlessly exchanged between the applications.

What languages is Surpac available in?

Surpac is available in English, Chinese, French, German, Spanish and Russian.
